CALIFORNIA SB 574 | EFFECTIVE JANUARY 1, 2027
California SB 574 is now law. Beginning January 1, attorneys using generative AI must protect confidential and nonpublic information, take reasonable steps to verify AI output and correct errors, disclose generative-AI use to the court for documents submitted, and keep the practice of law where it belongs: with the attorney. Filed citations must be personally verified.
That turns AI setup from an interesting technology project into an operational issue every California law office using AI needs to address.
